Reasons to Visit Konark

The Great Temple of Buddha

The Great Temple of Buddha is a temple complex in the Konark sun temple, Odisha, India. It was constructed by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman II (1185-1197) as an extension to the existing Buddhist temples at Konark. The Great Temple of Buddha is one of four Hindu temples within this complex and it has been suggested that it may have been built as an independent structure or may have been part of earlier structures which were later demolished by Narasimhavarman II.[1]

The Great Temple of Buddha was built next to Bhubaneswar Mahadev Temple which contains Shiva linga and Vishnu temple inside its sanctum sanctorum.[2][3] The main deity inside this temple is Lord Vishnu seated on Garuda throne with his hands resting on Ananta paduka (the sacred serpent). His right foot rests on a lotus flower while his left foot rests upon Gajalakshmi's head.[4][5]

The Best Sunsets in India

Konark is a beautiful place to visit. It has a great temple and a great sunset, sunrise, and even more. The sunsets here are unlike any others in India. You can see the divine rays of light striking down on the sea as they dance across its surface with such gracefulness that it makes you forget all about your troubles or worries for just a moment.

Konark also has other things to offer visitors like temples which were built centuries ago but still stand tall today due to their architectural beauty and grandeur; these temples were built by kings who wanted their subjects' worship of these sacred sites done properly so that they could feel proud about themselves (and maybe make some money off them).

The Best One-Day Trip from Kolkata

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal and a popular tourist destination, is also known for its colonial buildings and heritage sites. You can visit these places on your one-day trip from Kolkata.

The Victoria Memorial (the first memorial built by Queen Victoria) is located in Raja Rammohan Roy Park near Bidhan Sarani or Bow Bazaar in south Kolkata. This monument has been built to honour the memory of Queen Victoria who visited India several times during her lifetime.

Another important monument that you must visit while in this city is Howrah Bridge which is located on Howrah Station Road near Central Park Mall at Esplanade Street crossing over Hooghly River (Mahananda). This bridge was constructed in 1864 by British engineers under supervision of Chief Engineer J C Williamson as part of their efforts towards development works related with railways network expansion during those times

The Vishnu Temple at Konark

The temple is built in the shape of a chariot. It has five towers, each of which is different from the other and represents different parts of this vehicle. Each tower also looks like an animal or plant species (elephant-like, phallus-like) that corresponds to its name:

Elephant Tower – The elephant symbolizes strength, wisdom and prosperity;

Horse Tower – The horse represents courage;

Lion Tower – It represents bravery;

Human Tower – It represents love for humanity

The Nageswara Temple

You'll find the Nageshwara Temple, dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, in town of Konark. The temple was built by King Narasimhadeva in 1010 CE. The main image here is that of Nageshwara—another form of Shiva who was born out of Dakshinamurthy (the half-man, half-fish).

The temple also houses other deities including Brahma and Parvati.

The Kedarnath Temple

The Kedarnath temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, and it's one of the most visited temples in India. Constructed on an elevated platform on the banks of Mandakini river, this impressive structure has been built with granite stones and other materials for centuries.

It is said that there were three previous attempts at building this particular temple: first by Bhodhayana, then by Tusharmana and finally by Rudracharaya Swami Vardhana who was later canonized as "Madan Mohan", or "The Builder". However he died before completing construction work so his son Madan Mohan took over where he left off; henceforth known as "Madan Mohan Dev" (the builder).
