Wokha is a city in the Nagaland state of India. It is popular for its tea plantations, which produced more than half of India's tea during colonial times. Wokha has also been known for producing gold, silver and other precious metals since ancient times. The city was founded by Ahom kings in the 17th century and developed into an important trading center before being occupied by Assam forces during the Anglo-Nagaland war of 1891-1892.
Wokha is a town in the state of Nagaland, India. It is also known as "The Gateway to Kohima". The district headquarters are located at Wokha Town.
Wokha has been named after its founder and first ruler Thangkhuloi who was from a dynasty known as Khumijong (Khumijung). The name 'Wokha' means “wonderful” or “beautiful”; this may have been because there were many natural resources available in this part of what would become known as Naga Territories during ancient times when it was still under control by kingdoms like Phungyar and Zakhringa before being conquered by British East India Company around 1891 AD (before independence).
