Historical Significance

Parbhani is a historical town. It was the capital of the Vakataka dynasty, Rashtrakuta dynasty and Chalukya dynasty.

The history of Parbhani dates back to 5th century B.C., when it was established as an agricultural market by Bhagiratha, an Indo-Scythian ruler who ruled over Malwa region in present-day Madhya Pradesh state. He founded several cities such as Kapadvanj (Kapadvanja) and Chhotaudepur near Ujjain; these cities were known as Puruṣapura after him by other kings who followed him later on.

In 1028 AD, during reign of Harsha Vardhana I (1027–1085), shifted their capital from Kanauj to Mathura due to loss of control over central India.[2] However this royal court remained active till 1206 AD when Gajpati Kings completely destroyed it during war between two factions led by Dev Singh Deo & Shri Sankardeva respectively which ultimately resulted in destruction of entire city except few parts like temple complex which rebuilt later on under Shri Jayasimha II's rule over Malwa region around 1344 AD
