Jorhat is one of the oldest cities in India and was founded in 1760 by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It belongs to the state Assam, which is located in Northeast India. The most popular celebration of this festival takes place at Jorhat town where people gather for a grand feast on the first day of bright half moon (Kartik Purnima) after two weeks of celebrations that include folk songs like 'Bhorir Boroborir', 'Nul Raja Nul' etc., dance performed by various groups including men and women as well as children who dress up in colourful costumes made out of leaves like those worn during Gajapati King’s birthday celebrations; they also wear masks during their performances which makes them look very scary but funny at the same time!

It has been celebrated since 2004, when it was first introduced as part of a government-sponsored campaign to promote local products and increase tourism. This festival has also been known as ‘Jorhat International Folk Music & Dance Festival’ since 2001 when it was first held under that name for three days only in 2001 but later on extended its duration by another two days every year till 2009 when it started being held for five days continuously until today!
