Karwar is a popular destination for tourists 

Karwar is a coastal town in Karnataka state of India. It is the headquarters of Uttara Kannada district and has population over one lakh. The town has been ruled by many empires including the Marathas and then by the British Empire before being annexed by India in 1947. Karwar is known for its beaches, water sports and historical sites which attract tourists from all over India as well as foreign countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK etc.

Scenic Beaches

Karwar is a beautiful city with beaches that are perfect for swimming and picnics. Visitors can take advantage of the long sandy beaches, which stretch along the Arabian Sea. There are many restaurants on these shores as well, so you won't have to worry about finding food while enjoying your time at the beach.

Water Sports

Karwar is home to a number of water sports, including kayaking and banana boat rides. The town is also the starting point for travelers who want to explore the surrounding area by sea.

Karwar offers some of the best places for windsurfing in India as well as fishing off its shores. The city has several hotels that provide accommodations for this activity at reasonable prices

Wildlife Sanctuary

Karwar has a wildlife sanctuary that is home to various rare species of flora and fauna. The sanctuary comprises the surrounding area, which encompasses more than 70 square kilometers of land.

The best time to visit this wildlife sanctuary is between November-March, when you can see wild animals like spotted deer, sambar (deer), chinkar (jackal) and langur monkeys in their native habitat.

Devbagh Island

Devbagh Island is a popular tourist destination located just a few kilometers from Karwar. Visitors can enjoy water sports, sunbathing and explore the local seafood cuisine. The island has been declared as an ecologically sensitive area due to its rich biodiversity of flora and fauna.

The island offers visitors breathtaking views of Raja Sagar Dam and Devgad Fort (the fort was built by King Chhatrapati Shivaji). It also has an excellent beach that offers swimming opportunities during low tide times (tends to be between 4 PM - 8 PM).

Warship Museum

INS Chapal. This ship was built in 1864 to serve in the British fleet and has been preserved until today. It is India's first warship museum and one of only three such museums outside India (the others being those in London and Jakarta).

Karwar Port

Karwar Port: The port is one of the oldest ports in India and is a significant hub for fishing and shipping. It also has facilities for handling cargo, passenger ships, aircraft and other types of vessels.

The port was established during British rule in 1875 by Sir John Corbett who received permission from the Madras government to construct a shipyard at Karwar on behalf of the Indian government. The first ship built at this location was "Tiger" which was commissioned into service by British East India Company (BEIC). In 1929, new facilities were added when BEIC took over operation of Karwar Port from Bengal Maritime Corporation Ltd (BMCL).

Sadashivgad Hill Fort

Karwar is a city in Karnataka, India. With its scenic beauty and rich history, it is one of the most visited cities in Karnataka. The city has many tourist attractions such as Sadashivgad Hill Fort, Kalibeg Marine National Park and Karwar Port Trust Museum etc., which are worth visiting for their unique architecture and cultural significance.

Karwar is famous for its delicious seafood cuisine, which is a blend of Konkani and Kannada flavors. The best way to enjoy this food is to have it at one of the many restaurants in Karwar. If you want to try something different from the usual dishes that you get from other parts of Goa, then this might just be what you need!

Shri Devkarumari Temple

Shri Devkarumari Temple: The temple is located in the heart of the town and is a significant pilgrimage site for the locals. The main deity here is Kali, who can be seen standing on a snake as she holds a sword in her hand. A small shrine with an idol of Shri Devkarumari can also be seen in this temple.

The temple was built by Maharaja Narsimha Raya I during 13th century AD and has been renovated several times since then. It has been declared as ‘Sarvamedhika Kshetram’ (the most important place) by Government of Karnataka under Tourism Department Scheme No-6/2016 dated September 8th 2016

Lighthouse

The Karwar Lighthouse is a prominent landmark that offers panoramic views of the town and the sea. It is located on top of a hill, overlooking the bay from which it gets its name. This tower was constructed in 1825, when it took over from an earlier lighthouse built by Maharaja Bajirao II (1713–1814).

The lighthouse has been restored several times since then, most recently in 2005-06 after which it was officially reopened to visitors for public viewing. The structure consists of two parts: one part houses an observation deck with telescopes and telescopes for aiding navigation at night; while another part houses offices and storage areas for supplies needed by keepers/staff members working at night or during bad Karwar Weather conditions such as rain or foggy skies!

Nature Walks

Karwar is a well-known destination for nature lovers and hikers. The town is surrounded by lush green forests, and visitors can take nature walks to explore the local flora and fauna.

There are many opportunities for bird watching as well as spotting other local species such as deer, wild pig or elephants in their natural habitat.

Waterfalls

Karwar is also home to two of the most popular waterfalls in Karnataka, Magod Falls and Sathodi Falls. These can be visited on a day trip from Karwar or during your stay if you want a quiet break from exploring the city. The falls are about 25 km away from town, so it's worth taking an auto-rickshaw or taxi there!

The Magod waterfall is located close to Karwar Beach, which was recently voted one of India's best beaches by Lonely Planet Traveler magazine. It's easy enough to get here by public transport: take buses that go between Shivamogga and Bhatkal (both cities are within an hour). If you prefer something more adventurous than public transport however, we'd recommend hiring a car instead!

Historical Sites

Karwar was a major port town in India. The city has several historical sites Karwar Temples and pilgrimage sites which are worth a visit, such as the St. Anne’s Church, Naganath Temple and the Venkataramana Temple.

The St. Anne's Church is one of the oldest churches in Karnataka built by French missionaries during the 16th century AD. It is also known as St Anne's Cathedral because it has been declared an architectural monument by Karnataka Government under "Ancient Temples and Archaeological Sites" Act (ACT 243/1994). The church has got two bells that were brought from France during 17th century AD when they were installed here by French missionaries who had come here to spread Christianity among people of coastal region around Goa through Portuguese rule then followed by British colonization after independence in 1947 onwards

Cultural Festivals

Karwar celebrates various cultural festivals throughout the year, like the Karavali Utsav and the Karwar Beach Festival, which offer visitors a glimpse into the local culture and traditions.

During this time period, you can enjoy performances by traditional dance groups and participate in traditional sports like kabaddi (a game played with sticks) or cricket matches.
