Budget Trip to Suchindram

Budget Trip to Suchindram

I spent a weekend in Suchindram, Tamil Nadu. It was a beautiful weekend, and I hope you can learn from my experience.

Exploring Suchindram Temple

The temple is located in Suchindram, a small town in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

The temple is revered by Hindus as one of the 108 sacred places Vishnu has chosen to visit. It was built around 5th-6th century AD by Pandyas and it houses various sculptures from that period.

The architecture of this temple is very interesting as it has been designed on a square base with four small sanctums at its corners. Each sanctum houses an idol of Shiva, Vishnu or Surya (sun god).

Local people believe that all three gods represent different aspects of nature - Shiva represents creativity while Vishnu stands for stability; Surya represents energy or motion while also symbolising life itself

Hiking to Suchindram Waterfalls

Hiking is a great way to see the local landscape, meet the local people and wildlife, see plants that are not easily accessible in cities.

The hike begins from Suchindram bus stand. The trail starts off with some steps but after few minutes it becomes easy for anyone who has been walking before. It takes around 2 hours to reach the falls (1 hour less if you walk slowly).

Visiting Padmanabhapuram Palace

The Padmanabhapuram Palace is a palace in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. It was constructed by the British in the 18th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The entire palace complex consists of three main buildings:

The Padmanabhapuram Palace (Palace)

Thiruvazhaval Temple (Temple)

Raja's Bedroom

Relaxing at Kanyakumari Beach

Kanyakumari Beach is a beautiful beach in the Bay of Bengal, which is also a popular tourist destination. The town of Kanyakumari lies on the Coromandel Coast, just south of Chennai city.

It has some good Suchindram hotels and resorts that provide facilities like accommodation, food and drinks etc., along with other activities such as boat rides or sightseeing tours around this area.

The water here is very clear so you can see fish swimming inside it! You can swim if you want but make sure not to get too close because there might be sharks nearby...

Shopping for local handicrafts at Suchindram Market

The market is located in the heart of Suchindram, and you can easily find it by following the signs. It's a great place to buy local handicrafts, as well as food and snacks. There are many different types of handicrafts to buy here, including pottery, hand-loomed clothes and toys made out of wood or clay. You'll also find many Suchindram restaurants selling delicious dishes like fish curry or mutton fry!

Taking a boat ride to Thirparappu Waterfalls

Boat ride to Thirparappu Waterfalls

The boat ride is a fun way to explore the area. It’s also a great way to see the waterfalls and sunset, which makes this trip one of the best things you can do in Suchindram.

Enjoying a traditional South Indian meal at a local restaurant

Ordering the meal is a simple process.

You can order with your hands, fingers or mouth closed.

With your fingers: This is usually how people eat in India, but it's also possible to use utensils and cutlery if you want them (although they will not be provided). The most common way of eating with your fingers is by scooping up some food with them and putting it into your mouth while keeping one hand on top of the bowl of rice/soup/salad etc., which allows you to take bites without touching anything else. You can also use chopsticks if this feels more natural for you!

Watching the sunrise at Kanyakumari Point

The sunrise at Kanyakumari is a magical experience. It’s the southernmost tip of India, and it’s also one of the most beautiful places to see the sunrise in India.

This spot is located on the southern tip of India, so you can watch it from there as well as walk around and explore more places nearby!

Learning about local history at Thanumalayan Temple

The Thanumalayan Temple is a pilgrimage site in Kerala, India. It was built by Kakkavruksha, who was the head priest at the nearby Vishnu Temples and pilgrimage sites. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has been renovated several times since then.

The history of this place dates back to around 1000 BC when it was founded by Pandyan kings who ruled southern India during that period. Inscriptions found inside the walls of this temple reveal how its construction started under one king named Kuttambyan Nampoothirakan but later abandoned because there were too many other temples around him (he didn't want competition). Another inscription tells us more about how he lost his kingdom after being defeated by another king named Cheraman Perumal; both these rulers are believed to be incarnations of Vishnu himself!

Learning about local art at the Mani Art Gallery

The Mani Art Gallery is a popular tourist attraction in Suchindram. It's located in the heart of town and is a great place to learn about local art, as well as international artists who have lived in this area over the years. The gallery has a large collection of paintings by local artists, but its main focus is on displaying works by international artists who have lived or studied here.

The gallery features three floors with exhibitions that change every year, so there's always something new to see! You'll also find books about Indian culture on sale at this museum where you can learn more about both traditional as well as modern forms of Indian artistry

Taking a boat tour to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a tourist attraction in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was built to honor Indian philosopher, writer and social reformer Swami Vivekananda who visited this place during his visit to India. The memorial consists of two rock pillars which are about 60 feet high and about 50 feet wide each. At night, it looks like an island covered with lights as there are several electric bulbs attached onto them.

The entry fee for foreigners is Rs 200 per person while Indians have to pay only Rs 100 per person for visiting this place as part of their tour package from Chennai or Pondicherry city hotels/resorts that offer cheap deals on all types of packages including hotel accommodation at nearby places such as Alappuzha (Kerala), Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Madurai and Trichy too!

Closure

There’s a lot to see and do in Suchindram. For example, you can visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, which honors the famous Hindu leader of the same name who lived there for some time. This memorial is not just about learning about history—it also includes a museum where visitors can see rare artifacts from his life or learn more about Hinduism through interactive exhibits. Another popular attraction is Padmanabhapuram Palace, which is located on top of one of the hills surrounding nearby Padmanabhapuram Beach. This palace built by King Rama Varma I had its own library containing books written by scholars such as British colonialists who wanted to preserve Indian culture before they left India altogether!
