Hoshiarpur was founded around 1750 AD by Bhai Rup Chand, who had come from village Barota near Jullundhar (now part of Jalandhar District). After his death at age 102 years, he was cremated near present day Saini Gate (built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh), which remained standing till 1950s when it collapsed due to heavy rains during monsoon season; however it has since been rebuilt with modern technology using reinforced concrete beams along with stones used centuries ago!
The Jallianwala Bagh garden is a historical site that was the site of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. It was built as an army barrack and then used as a center for political gatherings. In 1919, it became the scene of a brutal massacre by British forces under Major General Reginald Dyer against unarmed protesters who were demanding independence from Britain. Hundreds of people were killed here, including women and children. The building has been preserved with memorials to those who died inside it during this event; today it serves as an important cultural center for Punjab tourism
