Surathkal is one of the most picturesque beaches in Karnataka. It is located on the eastern coastal belt of Karnataka. The area surrounding Surathkal has been declared as a conservation zone, which helps preserve its natural beauty and wildlife.

Sadashiva Temple

St. Lawrence Church

St. Lawrence Church is a Roman Catholic church in Surathkal, Kerala, India. It is located in the heart of the town and was built in 1887 by the Jesuits of St. Joseph's College (now known as SJ College) and it houses one of the oldest Christian churches in Kerala state.

The church was built while Rev Fr Josep Porthakudy was its pastor who served as vicar to this place for many years before he died on 2 December 1916 aged 75 years when he set out for Portugal where he had been posted by then Bishop Mar Varkey Vadakelyan to start new mission work among European Catholics living there who were mainly French emigrants after their expulsion from France during 1789-1794 period when they fled persecution following Revolutionaries' attack on Bastille Prison during July 14th 1789 which led to fall out between King Louis XVI monarchy regime & Revolutionary party faction led by Maximilien Robespierre so called Jacobins (Jean Jacques Rousseau) ,etc., consequently caused unrest among people all around Europe especially those who supported royalists cause since both sides failed miserably at repelling enemy forces thus making them vulnerable targets for revenge attacks from opposing factions including royalists who sought revenge against those responsible for taking down their king’s government led by Duc de Choiseul; Marquis de Lafayette; Comte d'Artois; Prince Eugene de Beauharnais etc."

Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple

Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple is one of the oldest and most popular temples in Surathkal. The temple, which was built in the 16th century, lies in the heart of Surathkal town. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is believed to have appeared here as a form of Vishnu after defeating demons like Bhasmasura and Kumbhakarna.

The temple has many shrines dedicated to different aspects of Lord Shiva’s life like Narasimha (half-man/half-lion), Parvathi Devi (wife of Vishnu), Bhairava (fierce aspect), Dakshina Kali (South Kali) .

It also houses many other deities including Nandi (Bull), Brahma & Saraswati Devas.
