Mandi has a rich history. It was founded by Raja Man Singh, who was the son of Maharaja Jaswant Singh of Patiala and the grandson of Raja Bhao Kishan Dev II. The city was built as a fortification to protect it from invaders, who attacked Mandi frequently during their raids on Punjab. The fort was also named after him: Man Mandir (Fort).
The first mosque in Punjab was built in 1561 by Mirza Shahamat Khan (also known as Mirza Ghazi Khan), a Persian general who defeated Sultan Sher Shah Suri at Panipat in 1536 before becoming emperor himself seven years later. This mosque is now known as Dargah Hazrat Khalifa Ghaus-e-Azam Syed Abul Hasan Nadvi Sahib Saheb after being renovated between April 2017 and January 2018

In fact, there are plenty of folk music and dance performances all around town that will have you clapping along to tunes from faraway lands. Another one takes place every Saturday evening at Namdev Mandir on Jambudvihar Road in Bikaner district – it has been going strong since 1975!
