Coorg is a region in the state of Karnataka, India. It is located in the Western Ghats and has the highest rainfall in the state. Coorg is a district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Karnataka and has been known for its natural beauty. The district covers an area of 5,857 km² and has an estimated population of over 400,000 people; this makes it the second most populous district after Bangalore City (Karnataka). Coorg was formed on 1st September 2008 by merging six taluks namely Belthangady Taluk (North Kanara), Puttur Taluk (Udupi), Bhatkal Taluk (Vijayapura), Karkala Taluk (Dakshina Kannada) and Moodabidri Taluk(Moodabidri). Coorg is located on both sides of the Western Ghats which comprises four mountain ranges: Anamudi Peak at 3,716 m high; Pachchila peak at 2286m high; Vellarimala Hills at 2183 m high & Agastyatirtha Hill at 2133m high respectively

These include the Coorg Carnival (held every year in March), which celebrates the region’s rich cultural heritage by showcasing traditional arts & crafts; Kumarakom Lake Festival (held annually in November), which showcases traditional music performances & dance competitions; Periyar Festivals held on different days at different venues throughout the district; Christmas Eve Procession on Christmas Eve evening at Chinnakanal Falls located near Madikeri Town; Annual Flower Festival held annually at Kovai Temple Complex, which showcases folk dances from various parts of India including Kerala , Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh. Puthari Festival

Puthari Festival is a festival of Coorg and is celebrated every year in the month of August. The festival is celebrated in the memory of the great saint Sankaracharya. It was he who established Puthari Matha (monastery) where he spent his last days before passing away on this day.

During this festival, devotees visit temples across Coorg to pray for good health and prosperity for themselves as well as their families.

The legend has it that when Lord Rama arrived at this island with their wife Sita aboard his boat they were welcomed by fishermen who helped them reach their destination safely so that they could spend their honeymoon there together before returning back home with all riches looted from Lanka along with Sita into Kingdom ruled by King Vali who tried many times but failed each time until finally giving up hope for good reasons."

History and significance of Kodava hockey

Kodava Hockey is a traditional game that is played by the people of Kodagu. It is a very popular sport in Kodagu and it has been played for centuries. The game was first introduced to Coorg by Thomas Munro during his visit to this region in 1811 AD.

The history of Kodava hockey can be traced back to 1605 when Portuguese merchants first came to Coorg, along with their hockey knowledge. From then onwards, they started teaching this game to local people who were familiar with it through their own practices before spreading them all over India including Bengal, Madhya Pradesh etc., thus making it one among other major sports like cricket (for Indians) or football (for Europeans).

Coorg Mango and Jackfruit Festival

Coorg Marathon

The Coorg Marathon is a marathon race that is held every year in November. It was started by the Coorg Wildlife Society and is one of the largest running events in Karnataka. The event aims at promoting sports activities among people from all age groups, especially children.

The race starts at 9 am on Sunday, 30th November every year at Chamarajanagar city center with registration for participants opening at 7:30 am onwards on the same day itself. It continues till 5 pm with winners walking away with cash prizes ranging between Rs 15000/- to Rs 2 lakhs while runners get prizes worth Rs 1000/- per km runned during this race!

Coorg Wildlife Society Annual Lecture Series

The Coorg Wildlife Society Annual Lecture Series is a series of lectures and seminars held by various experts on the wildlife and environment of the district. The lectures are arranged by the Coorg Wildlife Society, which was founded in 1984 to promote awareness about the flora and fauna of Coorg. The topics range from ecology to conservation issues related to nature in general.

The first annual lecture series was held on 24th February 2016 at Sainik School Auditorium in Kudremukh City, where Dr Arunachalam published his research on “Kodava Hockey: A Folk Sport” (2016). This paper discusses how hockey originated among Kodavas from northern Kerala and its role in their culture as well as its significance today.
