Kolkata International Film Festival

The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is the oldest and largest film festival in India. Founded in 1959, it takes place annually in November at the Esplanade Mall and St. Paul's Cathedral church built by William Gell, which is located near Park Street area of central Kolkata.

The first ever KIFF started with a total audience of 10,000 people who watched six films including “Kunjali Marakai” directed by Balu Mahendra on 15th November 1959 with producer Nimmagadda Prasad as chief guest.

South Bank Arts Festival

The South Bank Arts Festival is a festival of arts, culture and music. It has been running since 1986 and has become one of the biggest events in Kolkata. The festival is held at lakeside venue on the banks of River Hooghly at South Point Road in north Kolkata area from October to March every year.

The South Bank Arts Festival organizes several art shows, performances, exhibitions and workshops for students and adults alike as well as children's activities like painting competitions, puppet shows etc., which brings people together through their interests in art forms such as dance or music etc..

Srijani Fest

Srijani Fest is a festival dedicated to Goddess Srija. The festival is held every year in the month of December at Srijaninagar, Kolkata. The festival involves various cultural activities such as dance performances and other art forms like music, drama etc., which are performed by local artists from different parts of India as well as abroad.

Chhath Puja

Chhath Puja is a Hindu festival, celebrated on the first day of the lunar month of Ashwin. Chhath, an ancient ritual in which people worshiped gods and goddesses by performing a fire sacrifice, first came into existence during the Vedic era (1500 BC to 500 BC). It was later revived during Puranic times and rediscovered by Vaishnavas who observed it as part of their practice. The Chhat purana narrates how Lord Vishnu saved King Daksha from his son-in-law Surasuram who had kidnapped him from heaven with help from demons like Asuras or Daityas etc., who were under his command. After rescuing him from these demons, Vishnu then made it possible for Daksha to have offspring through his wife Sati -- Sunita Devi or Urvashi -- but this time through her brother Pushan instead so that he could have sons instead

Holi Festival

Holi, the festival of colours, is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalguna in the Hindu calendar. The festival marks the end of winter and beginning of spring season. It is a spring festival celebrated in India and Nepal.

The word holi originates from Sanskrit words ‘holi’ meaning “to smear” or “to dye” or “to mark off boundaries” with reference to its celebration during which people smear each other with color powder (pandit-vidhaan).

Durga Puja

Durga Puja is a Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar. It is one of the most important festivals in West Bengal and Odisha. The celebrations last for nine days leading up to Dasami (the first day). On this day, people carry out rituals such as offering puja to goddess Durga or Lakshmi Narayan deity at their homes or temples with traditional offerings like flowers, sweets, milk and curd (yogurt), lamps etc., followed by processions where deities are taken around the streets on chariots pulled by devotees dressed as Goddess Durga riding horses amidst loud music played by musicians who dance on chariots made out of bamboo sticks mounted with bells which make noise whenever they move along with their own drummers beating drums loudly all through these processions which take place throughout Kolkata city at night time when everyone gathers together at Jorasanko Temple complex located near Salt Lake just next door from Raj Bhavan where Prime Minister Narendra Modi resides during his tenure as chief minister."
