Many people buy gifts for loved ones as well as sweets such as bajra halwa (barley candy) which are very tasty!

Holi

Holi, the festival of colors celebrated in March, where people throw colored powder and water at each other. The festival has its origin in the Hindu mythological tale of Lord Krishna's birth. It is believed that on this day Krishna was born to Devaki Mahadevi and Vasudeva, who were both devotees of Lord Vishnu (another name for Shiva or Surya). They prayed to him that they be blessed with a child who would live forever and fulfill their dreams. In response to their prayers, Lord Shiva appeared before them as an infant holding a flute in his hands; he then gave each one of them a handful of dry grains from his breastplate so they could create an image from them—a form called 'Surya' or Sun god."
