Patiala has a rich history and culture. It is one of the oldest cities in Punjab, dating back to the 15th century. Patiala was originally known as "Patimukhi" which means "The City of Punjabi". Patiala is also famous for its festivals, cultural performances and shopping festivals.
Patiala was founded by Maharaja Bhup Singh in 1818 CE as an army cantonment town for his son Maharaja Duleep Singh, who was deposed from his throne by the British East India Company following their annexation of Punjab. The city is located near the banks of river Satluj (Sutlej), at an elevation of about 400 metres above sea level with its heartland lying towards north-east direction or towards south-west direction depending on whether one views from north or south side respectively; this means that most residents live here in northern part since they work at Central Secretariat Building (CSC) which lies just across road leading towards southern part where most commercial establishments are located including malls & markets etc., whereas those living closer towards northern side usually depend more heavily on agriculture due to cooler climate during summer months making crops grow faster

Patiala Heritage Festival
The Patiala Heritage Festival is an annual cultural event held in the city of Patiala, Punjab. The festival was first held in 2015 and has been organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Tourism under the Ministry of Tourism since then. The main objective behind organizing this festival is to promote tourism in Punjab through different events like music concerts, theatre performances etc., which will also attract tourists throughout India and Asia as well.
Baisakhi is a festival of the Punjabi people and it is celebrated on the first day of the month of April. The festival was started by Guru Hargobind Sahib, who also had a significant role in creating Sikhism as an organized religion. It's mostly celebrated in cities like Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana but can be found anywhere else too!

Patiala Food Festival is a food festival that takes place in Patiala every year. The festival is held at the beginning of April and it lasts for four days. The main attraction of this event is Bikaneri Chicken Curry, which has been named after its birthplace. It’s made with chicken pieces marinated in spices and then deep fried until golden brown.
Patiala Fashion Week is a fashion event held in Patiala, Punjab, India. The event is organized by the Patiala Fashion Week Association. The event is held every year in January.

Teej is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in the month of Shravan on the full moon day in the month of Ashwin. It is also known as "Love and Affection Day". Teej occurs on an auspicious day in Shravan (the third month of lunar calendar) which falls between July–August.
The significance of this festival lies in its connection with love, affection and bonding among couples who are married or wish to get married during this season or months.
Patiala Literature Festival is a literary festival held in Patiala, Punjab, India. The festival is organised by the Patiala Sahitya Sabha, a literary society founded in 1927. The first edition of this festival was held in 2013.It began with 10 events and has since expanded to 25 events over four days (from March 14 to 17)

Patiala International Film Festival is a film festival held in Patiala, Punjab, India. It is organized by the Patiala Film Society every year during January. The festival offers a platform for filmmakers to showcase their works and it has become one of the most popular festivals in the region.
The event was started back in 2003 when filmmaker Anil Sharma hosted his first festival at Municipal Corporation Grounds with around 40 short films being screened at that time.[1] Since then it has grown into a major attraction for cinema lovers from all over India as well as abroad who usually flock to attend this event every year.[2][3][4]

Patiala has a rich history of religious festivals. There are many temples and mosques in Patiala, which are visited by people from all over the world to celebrate their festivals and get blessings. The Patiala Art Festival is a biennial event held in Patiala, Punjab. It was first hosted by the city in 2016 and has been organized every year since then. The festival showcases an array of art forms from across India, including painting, sculpture and photography.
