Auroville

Arikamedu

Arikamedu is a village in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. It's located about 6 km from Thanjavur and attracts a lot of tourists due to Pondicherry Temples and pilgrimage sites, ancient ruins and beautiful nature.

Arikamedu was an important port during the Sangam period (300 BC to 250 AD). It is also known as "The Gateway to South India". The site has been excavated by archaeologists who have found evidence that there were five cities on this site which were destroyed by floods around 1200 AD.

Immaculate Conception Cathedral

The Immaculate Conception Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in Pondicherry city. It was built by the French colonial government and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Pondicherry. The cathedral is one of the largest churches in India, with an area of over 100 feet x 200 feet (30 m x 61 m).

The cathedral was constructed between 1682 and 1686 as a church dedicated to Our Lady Immaculate Conception, then known as Madimsakam (Tamil: மத்திள் உறை பெரு). The marble walls were later decorated with murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology; these have now been removed but can still be seen on some parts inside or outside this building.

Chunnambar Boat House

Chunnambar Boat House is a must visit place to enjoy the sunset and sunrise. You can also see the moonrise here. The boat house is located in the heart of Pondicherry, which makes it easy for visitors to reach this beautiful location.

The boat house was built in 1884 by John Travaart and his wife Catherina. It has been renovated several times since then but still maintains its original charm with its wooden slats on each side, giving it an old world feel that’s hard to ignore!

Gingee Fort

Gingee Fort is a fort in Gingee, Tamil Nadu, India. It was built by the French in 1734. It is located at the heart of the town.

Gingee Fort is one of the oldest forts in South India and was built by Colonel de Bois-Guilbert as part of French colonization efforts in India during 1734–1736.[1] The name "Gingee" comes from an old Tamil word for "elephant". The fort has been restored several times since its construction.[2][3] It now houses several museums including an archaeological museum containing artifacts from ancient civilizations such as those found at Mohenjo-daro;[4] also on display are paintings depicting scenes from ancient Hindu epics like Mahabharata or Ramayana.[5][6]

Matrimandir 

Matrimandir is a temple in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated in the town of Pondicherry. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the worship of Lord Murugan, who is considered to be one of the seven forms of God in Hinduism and his consort Goddess Parvati.

The Matrimandir was built by Sri Ramanuja (1017–1137 CE). The main deity inside this temple is Lord Muruga with his consort goddess as Lakshmi-Narayana, while there are other deities like Subrahmanya Swami Vishnu and Brahma Deva Vishnu at lower level along with Ganesh Deva Lakshmi Narayanan on uppermost level on either side

Goubert Market is a market located in the heart of Pondicherry. It is one of the oldest markets in Pondicherry, and it has been around since 1642.
